What is FastRIP™?
FastRIP™ is a PostScript interpreter (a “Postscript” printer driver for your
Epson inkjet) called a Raster Image Processor (RIP) and a high speed memory management tool that allows for the spooling of multiple jobs to your printer. Generally, inkjet printers do not come with a PostScript Interpreter. Those that do, use their PostScript capabilities for color calibration and not halftone output. Halftone dots are the key to printing vibrant or photorealistic images FastRIP™ is designed specifically to handle halftones, enabling an inkjet printer to create Imagesetter quality output while using off-the-shelf Epson inkjet ink. The software is calibrated to allow for the over 50% dot gain produced when printing inkjet ink to clear film. This means that if your graphic specifies a 50% dot, you won't get a 70% dot.
Screen
printers need halftones to simulate tones for realistic images.
Color inkjet output does not use half-tones
and the inkjet manufacturers have not designed that function
into their software. Typically, an Image Processing language
called Adobe Postscript is used to create halftone dots. There
are also different versions of Postscript (like the standard
Epson Postscript RIP) that won't shape halftones, but acurately
reproduce Pantone Color, not create halftone dots because
they expect to reproduce your picture directly on the photo
paper, not make positives.
Beware! EPSON
Stylus RIP & EPSON ColorBurst RIP don't control halftones!
(If you need the full ColorBurst RIP for Pantone color management,
we can get it for you.)
All printers need raster graphics images to print. Raster
graphics are digital images in a grid of X and Y coordinates.
The raster file is sometimes referred to as a bitmap because
it contains information that is directly mapped to the display
grid. A raster image processor (RIP) is a hardware or combination
hardware/software product that converts images described in
the form of vector graphics into raster graphics images or
bitmaps that the printer can output.
A typical inkjet printer is designed for full-color output
using ink spray that creates a full tone print - NO simulation
using dots. All of the programming and software that comes
with inkjet printers is designed for full color output. As
a screen printer you need a "monochrome" one-color image AND
if the image has any shading (grayscale) areas, these area
must be output using halftone dots that are large and opaque
enough to make a stencil for screen printing.
The Epson 4000 is a good example. It came with the Epson
Stylus RIP or the ColorBurst/EPSON Special X-Proof
RIP. The Stylus RIP is a Postscript interpreter that helps
with color management and color profiles but it DOES NOT do
halftone dots.
Easy To Use
With FastRIP™ you can print directly from almost any graphics application such as Adobe PhotoShop™ or Illustrator™, CorelDRAW™ or FastFILMS™. There are no additional steps and no confusing commands. There are no "hot folders" and no hoops to jump through. Just select Print ! For years, "mis-registration" has been an ongoing struggle with no solution. Laser printers use fusing rollers to heat up the media, thereby causing shrinkage and poor registration. The lack of good toner deposit and the matte finish of laser acetate and vellum have caused Screen Printers headaches for years. Often the only solution has been adjusting exposure to times that are too short for screen durability.
For those who demanded better registration and denser images, the only option was to use a dry thermal system. At $7,000 to $15,000 per system, one got excellent registration but lower resolution than an inkjet. Film Imagesetters were the final solution. They have excellent registration, high resolution and very dense black areas, but they come with a very hefty price tag- $20,000 or more! The combination of FastRIP™ and an EPSON 1800, 2400, 4800, 7800 or 9800 inkjet printer allows you to produce Imagesetter quality film positives without taking out a second mortgage on your home.
FastRIP™ is Flexible!
You aren't limited by size. No more tiling and no more shrinking jobs to fit on a laser printer. Plus the registration is accurate everytime! If you output to an EPSON 4800, you can print up to 17" x 22." Better yet, go to the EPSON 7800 and output 24" wide images. Using an EPSON 9800 you can get 44" output! You can produce calibrated paper color proofs in both normal inkjet output or halftones so the customer will see what the print will look like before its put to the shirt. If you print T-Shirt transfers using special coated paper, FastRIP™ is calibrated to make them look great! In addition to the software, your FastRIP™ package includes a Manual and Training DVD!
If you are thinking about purchasing a laser printer or thermal Imagesetter for your film positives, FastRIP™ is a MUCH BETTER alternative! With this revolutionary software and an Epson Inkjet printer you get more value, larger print sizes and higher resolutions for LESS MONEY!
Film Output - Standard or Double Density
FastRIP has two functions for clear film output. It allows
you to choose either
Standard Density or Double Density. For a high quality film
you can use the Standard Density setting. For
films that have a rough coating and need a heavier deposit of inkjet ink in
order to produce dense black images, use the Double Density setting.
FastRIP™ HD High Speed is a variable dot RIP software that works very fast. FastRIP™ HD High Speed works with CorelDRAW®, Adobe Photoshop® and Illustrator®, Macromedia Freehand® and Quark on both Mac and PC platforms. Print images at resolutions from 360 x 360 to 2880 x 2880 dpi for great detail and halftones, at speeds up to 180 LPI.
Cheat Sheet, manual and 2 hour Training Video included with
all versions.
