Dry Transfer Screen-Making
| Make Screens without the use of chemicals, emulsion or water - no mess or waste!
Description Finally a stencil making system that eliminates the need for a film positive, emulsion, capillary film, chemicals, washout (water), exposure and drying time. Good for the beginner or for those who use a septic system or those who want to save space. Minimal learning required (see below).
Procedure
- Create art work and convert to a negative image.
- Using a laser printer (Okidata prefered) or copier, print image on the coated side of the paper identified as the Imaging Sheet.
- Change the printer settings to "Heavy Paper" and set to the Finest Resolution possible. Use the "Bypass Tray" if your printer has this option.
- Feed paper into the copier or printer with the short dimension first (grain long). For best fusing results, select a heavy paper setting.
Transferring
- Marry the Imaged Sheet with the Transfer Sheet. This will apply the transfer coating to the imaged area, only.

Heat Press for 20 seconds at 225° F using high pressure with the Image Sheet on top.
Separate the papers while still Hot (Hot Peel). The stencil is ready to be applied to the screen.
- Place release paper on the heat press bed. Place clean, dry screen onto heat press, print side up. Place the imaging sheet face down onto the bottom surface of the screen.
Heat Press: 60 seconds at 315°F using heavy pressure.
- Wait 3 to 4 minutes before peeling the carrier sheet (cold peel). Once peeled, the screen is created.

- Blockout the screen with Lawson's Red Coat Blockout and begin printing.

- Repeat these steps for each color if printing a multi- color job.
- Once printing is completed, apply a Lawson Press Wash to remove the ink. To remove the stencil, use high pressure water. If needed, apply HR 2020 Haze Remover to make the screen look like new.

Of course, traditional screen making is "better" for long runs and fine halftones and critical registration printing.
